KIFA | Packaging Calculation

Background

KIFA designs and produces high-quality wooden packaging, one of the company's core competencies. The calculations for this had so far been performed manually in countless Excel files—a time-consuming, error-prone, and difficult-to-scale process. Processes that are so central to quality and efficiency deserve automated software. The new solution accelerates the processes and integrates the data directly into the Abacus ERP.

Solution

The new API automatically calculates packaging specifications— including material requirements, a CAD preview, and virtual truck loading for transport cost estimation. It is fully integrated into the Abacus system and communicates with the CAD software cadwork. The first functional version was developed within two months. Since then, the solution has been continuously expanded and has calculated over half a million material items.

Benefits

Manual processing steps are completely eliminated, and calculations are standardised and error-free. Thanks to integration with Abacus and ASTAG, transport costs are immediately available. Previously, manually drafting packaging in CAD software took around 30 minutes; today, it takes less than ten seconds. KIFA has increased efficiency and is now regarded as a digital pioneer in the Swiss wood processing industry.
