KIFA | Packaging Calculation

Background

KIFA designs and produces high-quality wooden packaging, one of the company's core competencies. The calculations for this have so far been performed manually in countless Excel files - a time-consuming, error-prone and difficult-to-scale process. Processes that are so central to quality and efficiency deserve automated software. The new solution accelerates the processes and integrates the data directly into the Abacus ERP.

Solution

The new API automatically calculates packaging - including material requirements, CAD preview and virtual truck loading for transport costs. It is fully integrated into the Abacus system and communicates with the CAD software cadwork. The first functional version is being developed within two months. Since then, the solution has been continuously expanded and has calculated over half a million material positions.

Benefits

Manual work steps are completely eliminated, calculations are standardised and error-free. Thanks to integration with Abacus and ASTAG, transport costs are immediately available. Drawing a packaging manually in the CAD programme used to take around 30 minutes. Today it takes less than ten seconds. KIFA has increased efficiency and is now considered a digital pioneer in Swiss wood processing.
