Digital platform for planning protection systems.

Contoweb developed a central platform for Geobrugg that enables engineers to plan, calculate, and document protection systems against rockfall and other natural hazards. It brings terrain data, complex calculations, 3D visualization, and reporting into one simple digital process, replacing various tools and data sources.

Geobrugg | Dimensioning Platform

Background

Before a rockfall barrier can stop a boulder or a system can stabilize a slope, a significant amount of calculation is required. What does the terrain look like? What forces are at work? Which system is suitable, and how should it be dimensioned? The answers lie in terrain data, calculations, and safety verifications—but previously, they were scattered across various manual tools, data sources, and Excel spreadsheets.

Geobrugg wanted to simplify this work for engineers. Rather than starting with a massive, rigid specification document, we began together with a blank slate. With an open mind to the solution, we worked in quick iterations, tested ideas, evaluated technologies, and developed the platform step by step.

Solution

The result is the browser-based Dimensioning Platform. High-precision terrain data can be analyzed directly. Photogrammetry turns drone footage into 3D models of the terrain. Within these models, engineers can plan and calculate protection systems and visualize them exactly where they will be deployed. The platform handles the complex calculations and generates the corresponding safety verifications.

Once the calculations are complete, there is no need to painstakingly copy results into a report. The documentation is generated directly within the platform. AI assists with the writing, content can be customized in the Report Designer, and every change appears instantly in the preview. The finished report is ready just a few clicks later.

Benefits

Gathering data, copying values into Excel spreadsheets, switching between different tools, and finally compiling everything to create a report? That’s all a thing of the past. Terrain data, calculations, visualizations, and documentation are bundled into one project, integrating seamlessly. This saves time and reduces errors wherever data used to be transferred manually.

And because the Dimensioning Platform runs in the browser, the project is available wherever engineers need it: in the office, on the go, or directly on-site. New Geobrugg systems and calculation tools can be added continuously. This transforms a collection of individual tools into a single platform that can keep growing and expanding.

Contoweb Services

When we started in May 2025, the vision was clear; however, the path there was deliberately left open. Together with Geobrugg, we evaluated technological approaches through proofs of concept, defined requirements, and developed the UX, the UI, and the technical concept. The first working version was ready by December 2025.

Today, we continue to develop the platform and its specialized calculation microservices. Since its launch in September 2026, we have also managed full SaaS operations and monitoring. This ensures the Dimensioning Platform remains technically true to its product vision: ready for new applications, integrations, and ideas.
